LISIANTHUS PRODUCT DAY AT KEUKENHOF
Last Tuesday we were invited by our Lisianthus partners to the Lisianthus product day at Keukenhof. Marcel van der Lugt opened the inspirational afternoon.
Bart Siemerink, Director Keukenhof welcomed everyone and explained more about Keukenhof and their mission and why they are so important for the Floral Industry. After Siemerink, Jens Baan of Koppert Cress told us their (marketing) story. Very inspirational and we learned a lot about their product: cress and the hurdles they had to take before they became such a famous Dutch family company.
At the end we all brainstormed about ideas to promote the Lisianthus even more. Even though Astrid Groenewegen, Product Manager Lisianthus at Royal FloraHolland, told us that the Lisianthus had grown immensely the past 5 years. The Lisianthus has worked her way up to the 6th biggest flower product group within Royal FloraHolland. Especially the double varieties are very popular.
Even though there has been a huge expansion of the Lisianthus production, the overall quality improved so much the past years. So, it is no surprise prices have increased the last years. Although prices have increased, she is still very popular among the florists. We can say the flower has gotten a great price-quality ratio.

Besides the inspirational speeches and floral arrangements, a price for the best Lisianthus was given to ‘van der Lugt Lisianthus’ for the Alissa Pink. We like to congratulate Marcel and his team with this achievement!
The reasons the professional jury choose this Lisianthus:
- Beautiful colour
- Strong cut flower
- And for most, the flowers are huge and are real eye catchers in bouquets and floral designs.
