FLOWER FESTIVAL AALSMEER
On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June Aalsmeer we visited Flower Festival Aalsmeer. The Dutch Flower Group and OZ Export delivered flowers for the designs at the water tower. During our visit we took photo’s of the amazing designs.
FLOWER PROMENADE WATER TOWER
A walkway was created on the water next to the water tower. We were literally walking on water, while enjoying all the flower creations.
Seven different floral arrangers made several pieces of art with flowers on this walkway. There we even designs floaring in the water like the Floating Flower Flamingos.
To get a better view from the top we climbed all the way to the top of the water tower. The Art Deco-style water tower was used until 1994. It was used for (emergency reserves of) drinking water for the people in Aalsmeer and surroundings. At the top of the tower we had an amazing view. We could see a lot of greenhouses, Royal FloraHolland, Schiphol Airport and even Amsterdam and IJmuiden.
We spotted our account manager for Poland, Anita, waving at us. After that we went to Galerie Sous-Terre with an exhibition of art with flowers.
HANE IKE BATTLES
Later that day, Hana Ike Battles we organised at the Horticultural Museum. During these Japanese battles two flower specialist are making an arrangement in a limited amount of time. The audience could vote for the best artist.
WORKSHOPS, INSPIRATION AND FLOWERS
Next stop was the windmill square (Molenplein). The 150-year old flour mill (that still functions) is located in the heart of the main shopping street of Aalsmeer. Of course, we ate the famous “poffertjes” (little Dutch pancakes).
For the Flower Festival, the mill was decorated with flowers. You could find many things to do on the square nest to the mill. There were garden inspirations and information, bouquets, children’s art project ‘Flower Zoo Path’ and workshops.
