THE WORLD’S BIGGEST FLOWER PARADE
OZ EXPORT EMPLOYEE BUILT ONE OF THE FLOATS
Around one million people visited this years ‘Bloemencorso’, the world’s biggest flower parade.
The Flower Parade is now a worldwide phenomenon that started in the Netherlands. “Where else?”, would a Dutchman say. We are a typical flower loving country, having the highest spending on flowers per capita.
The western part of the Netherlands contains a big area where you will find many bulb growers, many of which supply OZ Export either through the auction or directly at the Virtual Market Place (VMP). That area is called De Bollenstreek (Bulbs Region). Since bulbs are the most used products on the floats (i.e. large flat parade trolleys) it makes sense that this is the place to be for the best flowers with the biggest diversity.
This year was the 76th edition. Every edition has a theme. This time it was all about ’energy’.
Spring started early this year, so it was far from easy to get all the Hyacints, one of the most used flowers, in top shape.
After months of planning and weeks of constructing and building the 58 floats were ready to be the stars of the moving flower show for two days. “And it’s all worth while”, proud OZ Export colleague Tom den Elzen reports. He was one of the many volunteers who built one of the most eye-catching floats ’Butterfly Effect’.
The next edition of the Bollenstreek Flower Parade will take place on 25 and 26 April 2015. Be sure to reserve some space in your agenda to visit Holland and view this flower spectacle.Back to overview
