GENTIANA BY ROGENTI AIMS AT EXCLUSIVITY
Rogenti is a modern, medium-sized horticultural enterprise in a special niche market: the breeding and cultivation of Gentiana. They can be considered the global leaders in this cut flower segment.
Director Marcel Roog has been busy breeding the Gentiana intensively since 1984. This has resulted in an extraordinary and rare top quality cut flower that is available in six colours.
“Thirty years ago I started growing a bed of blue Gentiana. Today we offer six colours: Gentiana Blue Sky, White Sky, Lavendel Sky, Pink Sky Purple Sky and Dark Blue Sky. These varieties are worldwide registered trademarks owned by Rogenti.”
Flowers of worship
While studying at the Agricultural University of Wageningen Marcel gets mesmerized by the Gentianas, mysterious plants in growing in extreme conditions in inaccessible places in the mountains. The origin of the species grown at Rogenti loes in East Asian countries, like Japan. In the Buddhist culture the flowers play an important role in ancestor worshipping.
The scarcity and harsh conditions to obtain the flowers make big scale cultivation of this flower extremely difficult, and only a few companies manage to keep the vulnerable plants alive. However, Rogenti proves to have talent controlling the growth of the Gentiana.
Any wholesaler or florist looking for exclusivity buys Gentiana. Use this flower in your flower arrangements and your customers will be surprised by this stately, long-lasting vaselife.
Marcel Roog has turned his hobby into his life’s work: “It is a challenge for me to keep looking for Gentiana in new shapes and colours. With such exclusive flowers we can – just like the better florists – stand out permanently from the regular offers in the lower segment.”
Rogenti produces, as one of few companies in the Netherlands, horticulturally CO2 neutral. “Where possible, we make use of biological control,” says Marcel Roog. “In 2009 Rogenti was even proclaimed Climate Hero by the Dutch environmental movement.”
