CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE HYACINTH FRAGRANCE
To celebrate the new flower of the Month we held a small fragrance tasting at OZ Export. We asked high quality grower Straathof Flowers to present some of the best smelling Hyacinths at the OZ Export office.
BUT WHY DO HYACINTHS SMELL?
In the wild the plant is pollinated by different insects such as honey bees. The flowers are very fragrant and attract the insects with their sweet scent and reward them with nectar. So their scent is actually functional!
DIFFERENT HYACINTHS DIFFERENT FRAGRANCES
- Did you know each Hyacinthus variety has its own fragrance? Hyacinthus Delft Blue has the most powerful ‘sharp’ scent. City of Bradford’s fragrance is a bit softer then the Delft Blue but it is still very strong. China Pink is the least ‘sharp’ scent of the three.
- Aiolos is a mild scented Hyacinthus. Yellow Stone is very soft and Yellow Baby has a sweet perfume like fragrance.
- If you are a big fan of strong perfumes you should try the Delft Blue or the City of Bradford. If you like light au de perfumes you should try the Yellow Stone of Yellow Baby.
Try it for yourself!
TIP FROM THE GROWER!
Please advise your customers not to trim the stems of the Hyacinthus. This allows you to enjoy the scent and colour of the Hyacinths longer.
But more important! If you cut the stems, the juices from the inside will break free. The juices will ‘poison’ the water with bacteria that will multiply fast. Because of this any other flower from the bouquet will deteriorate quickly. So please remember to tell your customer not to cut the stems.Back to overview
