DECORATE YOUR WEDDING & EVENTS WITH HYDRANGEA

Hydrangea [Hortensia] cut flowers are perfect for special events, such as weddings. Summer feeling, endless colours, volumous blossoms and a deeper meaning. All this makes Hydrangea a perfect wedding flower for any taste. In this blog, we love to inspire you with our suggestions, flower care tips and, of course, links to a free online colour guide.

SYMBOLISM OF THE HYDRANGEA

Most of the flowers have their own symbolic meaning. When it comes to weddings, it is also very nice to think a little bit beyond. This can be done by choosing a particular flower. Due to the fact that the flower is a collection of tiny blossoms in a beautiful round shape, it symbolises grace, beauty, abundance. However, it also symbolises gratefulness and sincerity. This is a perfect symbolic meaning when it comes to such a sincere ceremony like a wedding. Incorporated into a bridal bouquet, it would be as if the bride was carrying those sincere feelings in her hands.

WHICH STYLE DO YOU CHOOSE: SWEET, SOMETHING BLUE OR PURE?

1# SWEET PINK

As we have mentioned earlier on, Hydrangea comes in a great variety of colours, which makes it perfect for any style you have in mind. Let’s start with the popular pink Hydrangeas. Be it many vases along the isle, flowers in the hair or blossoms covering the table. The elegance of the flower in combination with its volume allows for endless possibilities. For a traditional, yet sweet wedding, the pink varieties offer you many options.

Our suggestions:

  • Fresh season pastels: Sweet Verena, Magical Emerald.
  • Fresh season: Force, Lollypop, Verena, Mammoet (very big Hydrangeas!), Candy Floss (white with pink).
  • Classic season: Verena Pink/ Green, Elbtal Pink/Green, Rodeo Pink/Green, Magical Opal Pink/Green.
  • Specials: Papillon, Luxor, Harlekijn (bi-coloured), Magical Amethyst Pink.

2# SOMETHING BLUE

Would you like to keep it classy, but still add a colour pop? No problem! Choose a blue variety you would like to incorporate into your design and you will probably find it within the assortment of Hortensias. Do you want a bright pop, but not too bright? Then choose one of the varieties from the pastel palette. Do you like to experiment? Take green and white Hydrangeas and mix them with the blue ones for an even brighter result.

Our suggestions:

  • Fresh season: Pimpernel, Bela, Royal Navy, Margarita, Bodensee, Hilde Moorhof, Elbtal Blue, Mammoet Blue (One of the biggest varieties), Challange. Lollypop and Verena have a softer blue tone.
  • Classic season : Ebtal Green/Blue, Ebtal Blue/Green or Verna Blue/Green.
  • Special: Steal the show with Magical Revolution.

3# PURE white

White matches a traditional ceremony with a white dress beatifully. In this case, the following Hydrangeas would make a splendid addition to the bridal bouquet or the venue decorations in general.

Our suggestions:

  • Fresh season: Verena White, Schneeball White, MME. E. Mouillère, Icecube or Magical Pearl.
  • Classic season: None, during this season we suggest to opt for some green varieties like: Schneeball Green, Maxia, Verena Green or Magical Emerald Green.
  • Special: Anabelle, Kyushu or Noblesse (bi-coloured variety: white with green edges).

4 CARE TIPS FOR FLORAL PROFESSIONALS

Hydrangas are not difficult to take care of. However, if there is a wedding coming up, it is better to be safe than sorry. Therefore, we’d like to provide you with a tip on how to treat them right:

  1. Take a clean vase and fill it with some water. Make sure to also add cut flower food.
  2. Remove all the excess leaves from the stem of the flower.
  3. Cut off approximately 1 cm off the stem. For a better result, make sure to repeat this every couple of days.
  4. Lastly, keep the flowers away from heaters and/or direct sunlight.

  • Bonus Tip: you can also dry the Hydrangea, when it is not as fresh anymore. It’s very simple! When the flower has changed its colour, remove the leaves and water from the vase and enjoy the final result!
