THE QUEEN OF SUMMER FLOWERS

Summer is here! There is no better way than to celebrate the sunny weather and warm temperatures with the queen of Summer flowers: the Helianthus, also known as the Sunflower.

The Sunflower is originally from North and South America. Native Americans used to eat the flower’s seeds with beans, sweetcorn and squash. The name Helianthus has Greek roots, ‘helios’ means sun and ‘anthos’ means flower.

WHY DOES THE SUNFLOWER FOLLOW THE SUN?

The Sunflower symbolises the sun and love. In Greek mythology the beautiful nymph Clytia fell in love with the sun god Apollo. But Apollo did not return her love. Clytia died of a broken heart and was transformed into a Sunflower that constantly follows the sun. This way the Sunflower can always look at the sun to see her sun god. So, this bright romantic flower comes with a tragic love story.

TWO SUNNY BOUQUET ReceiptS

You can combine the Sunflower with other happy flowers! Take the Sunflowers, Gladiolus, Celosia, Gerbera and Gloriosa and turn them into a bright and bold bouquet.
