PRETTY PHLOX BY HOGENBOOM
This week our Flower Pitch Corner was filled with the Pretty Phlox cut-flowers by Hogenboom Phloxen.
The name Phlox is derived from the Greek word Phlóges, which means ‘flame’. Phlox originates from North America. At first, the flowers were red, but now the colour range includes different shades. Bright pink, soft pink, purple and white to name a few. When the Phlox fully blooms, they have many small star-shaped flowers. Most of the Phlox are fragrant as well, which makes the Phlox a great addition to your bouquet.
STORY OF THE GROWER
Hogenboom Phloxen is a family company of four generations. Founded in 1930, the first generation initially grew vegetables. The second generation started with Tulips and Chrysanthemum. After year round growing of Chrysanthemums of other companies, the third generation switched to summer flowers, including Phloxen. In 2006, the fourth generation came and the growing of Tulips, Phloxen and Chrysanthemums were emphasised. Phloxen became more and more the main product of the grower. When in 2011 the name of the grower Firm Jac. Hogenboom was changed into Hogenboom Phloxen.
