THIS WEEK IN OUR FLOWER PITCH: THE MEDITERRAEAN MATTHIOLA
This week we had an amazing Matthiola [also known as Stock] product presentation in our lovely Flower Pitch at OZ Export. These beautiful flowers are available in different colours and sizes! The Matthiola fits well with the joyful, exciting Spring season! This beautiful flower welcomes Spring with her grey-green leaves, bold bunches of flowers and a sweet light spicy scent.
Matthiola is an European genus of plants in the mustard family (Brassicaceae) with about fifty different species. Matthiolas are one, two or multi-year, herbaceous plants, sometimes with a lignified base.
Matthiola: Phantom White, Phantom Pink, Phantom Lavender and Phantom Purple.
Matthiola stems originally come from the Mediterranean countries and is named after Pierandra Mattioli (1500-1577). He was an Italian court physician of Maximilian II of Austria and author of several medicine and plant engineering works.
In our Flower Pitch corner we have the larger sized Matthiola Phantom from the Italian grower ‘Lecce’ and the smaller Dutch Matthiola from grower ‘van de Googh’.
The flower is excellent in romantic bouquets because of the white and pastel colours. The trendy purple flowers give your field bouquet a robust character! A great way to incorporate the colour of the year 2018 in your store!
Matthiola Phantom Purple and Phantom Light Pink.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR MATTHIOLA
With the right care the Matthiola can stay beautiful up to twelve days!
For the most beautiful creations, whether in vases, pots or floral foam, you want to keep the flowers, foliage and plants fresh and hydrated at all times. Chrysal has different products which enhance colours, reduce evaporation and improve the opening of buds. Chrysal products are available at OZ Export, check our webshop or contact us directly for special requests!
- Trim the stem diagonally with a sharp knife.
- Remove the lower leaves. The leaves shouldn’t touch the water in your vase.
- Use a clean vase and fill it with fresh water.
- Don’t place the flowers near a fruit bowl. Fruit naturally produces ethylene gas and the flowers become wilted much sooner.
These are the most popular Spring colours: 1 Yellow, 2 Purple, 3 Pink, 4 White, 5 Lavender, 6 Light Pink.
