BEGUILING BLUSHING BRIDE
The Serruria florida is part of South Africa’s folklore. The flower has many different historical stories written about them, the most famous one is that French Hugenots farmers would approach their girlfriends with the flower in their lapels and ask for their hand in marriage. The common name, Blushing Bride, is probably derived from the flowers colour. Another explanation of the name can be that the suitor’s intention were clear to everyone around him, much to the embarrassment of his bride to be. The deeper pink the colour of the flower was, the more serious his intentions.
